The Van Elly Jewelry Design Process

The Van Elly jewelry design process is an extremely time consuming and painstaking process; however the result is nothing less than a phenomenal piece of jewelry. This is our brand and our careful attention to detail from design to manufacturing is what defines the Van Elly brand. Below, we will give you a peek at our jewelry design process so that you can see for yourself how dedicated Van Elly is to our craft.

When you purchase a piece of Van Elly jewelry you are making the decision to own a piece of art that not only perfectly compliments your beauty, but also the design, process, and dedication that goes well beyond most other designer jewelry brands out there.

• Inspiration Gathering & 2D Sketching: The first phase involves our designers gathering ideas and finding inspiration for the next Van Elly jewelry piece. This process takes an enormous amount of time as the approval process is very stringent. Once our designers come up with the perfect piece of jewelry, they transfer their vision from mind to paper with a 2D sketch.

• Design Discussion, Analysis, & Approval: After sketching their ideas down on paper, our designers sit together with our Design Directors to discuss and analyze their motivation and reason for each of their sketched jewelry pieces. After careful consideration, if designs are approved by the Design Directors, the jewelry design will move on to the next phase.

• 2D Computer Rendering & Approval: Our designers then turn their sketches into 2D computer renderings that approximate the look and feel of their jewelry pieces. This phase allows us to modify our designs for the real world. Once again, an approval is required from our Design Directors before the jewelry design can move onto the next phase.

• 3D Computer Rendering: Once our designers obtain approval for their 2D computer rendering they work with our 3D artists to bring their piece to life. This phase requires absolute real world technical measurements including thickness, height, width, weight, etc...

• Rapid Prototyping / CNC Machining: 3D models are great for visualizing the piece of jewelry; however, to ensure that our designer's visions are properly realized, the next step is to create a prototype. Depending on the complexity of design, we will create a prototype of the jewelry with either a rapid prototype machine or a CNC machine. The prototype will go through another round of analysis and discussion before it obtains the approval for manufacturing.

• Care, Consideration, & Laser Logo Engraving: Although the manufacturing process is too detailed to be discussed here, you can see that the care and consideration taken in our design process makes its way into our manufacturing process. Quality control is stringent and pieces that do not live up to the Van Elly brand will never see the retail space. When a jewelry design specifies the placement of our Van Elly VE logo, our VE logo is engraved onto the piece using precision computer controlled lasers.
